YOUNG COLLECTS THIRD MW PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOD

Senior Desi-Rae Young averaged 25.0 points per game to lead the Lady Rebels to a 2-0 week in MW play

UNLV’s Desi-Rae Young has been named Mountain West Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league announced today.

The 6-foot-1 senior center led the No. 25 Lady Rebels in back-to-back games to go 2-0 in the third week of conference play averaging 25.0 points per game. Young scored 24 points by shooting 11-for-13 from the field and was 2-for-4 from the free throw line against the Spartans. She also tied her career high in steals with four and her season-high in assists with four on Jan. 10.

The Las Vegas native stayed hot at Air Force on Jan. 13 as she recorded her 40th career double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds (seven offensive, four defensive) and led the Lady Rebels to a 76-64 victory over the Falcons. Young shot 9-for-13 from the field, 8-for-13 from the free throw line and added a steal and block.

Young and the Lady Rebels collected their 28th consecutive victory over Mountain West foes, picked up the 22nd straight win over Air Force and remained undefeated over the Spartans under head coach Lindy La Rocque (5-0).

This is the third weekly nod for Young this season and the sixth for the Lady Rebels this season.

UNLV will hit the road to visit San Diego State on Wednesday, Jan. 17 with tip-off scheduled for 11 a.m. PT
