HUSTLIN’ REBELS TO OPEN 2023 SEASON FRIDAY NIGHT AT HOME

UNLV baseball will open its 2023 season at Earl E. Wilson for a three-game series against Pacific.

The defending Mountain West Regular-Season Champions will open the 2023 season at home this weekend with a three-day, nonconference series against the University of the Pacific at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

The Rebels and Tigers will kick things off Friday evening with first pitch slated for 6:05 p.m. The series will continue Saturday afternoon at 1:05 p.m, followed by the finale scheduled for Sunday at 12:05 p.m.

PROMOTIONALLY SPEAKING
Friday:
– The first 200 fans through the doors will receive a free t-shirt
– It’s $2 Dos Equis with Smoke’n’ Sams while supplies last.
Sunday:
– Kids 12 and under will be able to run the bases after the conclusion of Sunday’s contest.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING
The Scarlet & Gray and Pacific have squared off a total of 56 times with the first meeting taking place in 1970. The Rebels own a seven-game lead in the all-time head-to-head series, notching 36 wins to 20 losses. The Scarlet & Gray swept the Tigers during the last series played between both programs in 2021 (8-4, 3-2, 10-0) played at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

ON DECK
UNLV will hit the road Tuesday for a single competition against Arizona State at the Phoenix Municipal Stadium with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. The Hustlin’ Rebels will then head to the Golden State for the Tony Gwynn Memorial tournament featuring UC San Diego, Hawai’i, UC Irvine and Washington State. The four-day contest will be held at the Triton Ballpark, Fowler Park & Cunningham Field and Tony Gwynn Stadium beginning Friday, February 24.

REBELS PICKED FIRST IN MW PRESEASON POLL
The UNLV baseball team was picked to finish first in the 2023 Mountain West Preseason Poll, which was voted on by the Conference’s seven head coaches. This is the first time in program history that the Scarlet & Gray was selected as the preseason favorite. Additionally, the coaches tabbed junior center fielder Rylan Charles, junior left fielder Austin Kryszczuk and senior second baseman Edarian Williams to the MW Preseason All-Conference Team.

Coming off of a very successful 2022 season, UNLV secured four first-place votes and accumulated a total of 33 points to finish atop the preseason rankings. San Jose State claimed two first-place votes and amassed 27 points for second place. The San Diego State Aztecs took third this season with 25 points. Fresno State, which took the final first-place vote and totaled 24 points, Air Force (21 points), UNR (10 points) and New Mexico (seven points) rounded out fourth through seventh, respectively.
