Z Athlete Village to Host World Indoor Track & Field League: A New Era in Track and Field
Z Athlete Factory is thrilled to announce that Z Athlete Village will be the official home of the World Indoor Track & Field League (WITFL). This exciting partnership marks a significant milestone for the innovative athlete campus, which will feature top-tier facilities including the world’s largest indoor track, an aquatics center, and advanced performance training areas. With the addition of the WITFL, Z Athlete Village will host premier track and field events, further establishing it as a hub for elite athletic competition and development.
Slated to debut in Las Vegas in 2026, this groundbreaking league promises to transform the sport with an innovative format celebrating versatility and comprehensive athleticism. The World Indoor Track & Field League will feature 24 teams representing cities around the globe, including the host team from Nevada.
This new professional league will consist of teams of athletes who excel in running, jumping, and throwing, competing across a variety of events from the jumps, throwing events, sprints and hurdles all the way up to the 800 and 1500 meters. A draft of athletes for the pro league will be held in May of 2025, allowing teams to finalize their rosters and prepare for the inaugural season.
Each week, athletes will compete in multiple disciplines, demonstrating their overall athletic ability and pushing the boundaries of traditional track and field. Each athlete in the World Indoor Track & Field League will receive a competitive average salary and bonuses of approximately $260,625, reflecting the league’s commitment to attracting top talent and rewarding exceptional performance.
Invitations for WITFL Youth Development League will be sent out during the middle and high school outdoor track and field seasons next year as well.
“Our vision with the WITFL is to modernize track and field by celebrating the most well-rounded athletes,” said Zig Ziegler, Chief Executive Officer of Z Athlete Factory. “Just like the decathlon and heptathlon highlight versatility in athletes, we want to show that track and field is not just about being the best in one event. It’s about being the fittest across a range of challenges.”
Inspired by the iconic ABC’s Wide World of Sports and the multi-events of track and field, the WITFL will offer a dynamic competitive and entertaining experience. Athletes will participate in events that test their versatility, speed, strength, flexibility, and endurance, highlighting their capabilities across a broad spectrum of track and field disciplines. The WITFL’s approach echoes the decathlon and heptathlon, emphasizing overall athletic prowess over specialization.
“While it’s impressive to be the fastest man or woman in the world,” added Ziegler, “the WITFL will mix things up. Athletes will be tested across a variety of events, making every competition a true showcase of overall athleticism. Inspired by legends like Dan O’Brien, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, rising stars Anna Hall, and Great Britain’s Katarina Johnson-Thompson, our league will honor those who excel across multiple events.”
The league will feature an eight-week regular season followed by a four-week playoff. During the regular season, teams will compete each week in four different events, with athletes scoring points for the team based on their performance in each event. The scoring system will also award points for placement in each event, with higher points for top finishes. At the end of the regular season, the teams with the highest cumulative points will advance to the playoffs.
The playoffs will consist of a series of elimination rounds leading to the championship. Teams will compete in head-to-head matchups, with each week’s results determining which teams move forward. The top teams will vie for the world championship in a grand finale, where the most versatile team will be crowned World Champions.
With a substantial $100 million budget, the WITFL will offer competitive salaries, bonuses, and world-class facilities. Housing will be provided for the 12-week season, ensuring an exceptional experience for all participants. The league is working to identify the best television network to bring WITFL’s excitement to a global audience and is also in talks with major sponsors to support the league’s vision and ensure its success.
In addition to the professional league, Z Athlete Village is excited to introduce the WITFL Youth Development League, launching in the summer of 2025. This initiative will invite youth teams to participate in a national championship event in Las Vegas. Teams of eight well-rounded athletes will compete in local events leading up to the summer championship, with the top teams advancing to the national championship held in a temporary venue in Las Vegas.
The WITFL Youth Development League aims to nurture young talent and provide a platform for the next generation of track and field stars. It will emphasize the importance of versatility and comprehensive athletic skills, mirroring the principles of the professional league.
The World Indoor Track & Field League is set to offer a fresh and exciting take on the sport, focusing on overall fitness and athleticism. By celebrating the most well-rounded athletes, the WITFL will create a new benchmark for track and field excellence.
