Walker Furniture & HELP of Southern Nevada Team Up for Walker’s 19th Annual “Home For The Holidays”

WALKER FURNITURE AND HELP OF SOUTHERN NEVADA TEAM UP
FOR WALKER’S 19th ANNUAL “HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS”

Nomination Letters Being Sought Now to Give 28 Families a Houseful of Furniture

Walker Furniture is now seeking nomination letters through Dec. 7 on behalf of Clark County individuals and families in need for the 19th annual Home For The Holidays program.

As in past years, Walker Furniture will be supplying recipient families with a houseful of new furniture in time for the holiday season.  Larry Alterwitz, CEO of Walker Furniture, announced this year the company is again expanding the program to make the holidays a little brighter for 28 families in need.  HELP of Southern Nevada will again be using their expertly trained staff to identify which nominated families display the most genuine need for new furnishings.

Since 1994, Home For The Holidays has brought joy and hope to hundreds of Valley families that have endured a variety of hardships.  Past recipients have included single-parent households facing financial difficulty; families with children suffering from physical or mental disorders; families that have lost their homes and belongings to fires; families that have been affected by illness, domestic violence or sexual abuse, and a variety of additional situations where families and individuals have come onto hard times.

Letters to Walker Furniture typically come from teachers and students, health care professionals, social service workers, clergy, friends, neighbors, children and grandchildren.  Last year’s recipients included a single-parent family of five, where one child had a brain injury that required ongoing therapy and the entire family was sleeping on the floor; a family that lost all of their possessions in a fire; four minor children whose mother was shot and killed by their father and are now being raised by their grandparents; and a single, working mother of five who was unable to provide her family with beds, chairs or a dining table.

Walker Furniture relies on the community to submit letters on behalf of prospective recipients.  Anyone with a family or individual in mind should write to company president, Larry Alterwitz, describing the situation.  All letters are reviewed by outside, independent panels with assistance from HELP of Southern Nevada.  The preliminary panel consists of representatives of HELP of Southern Nevada, a local nonprofit that reads and verifies the thousands of letters received each year from the community.  Since 1970, HELP of Southern Nevada has assisted individuals and families to become self sufficient through direct services, training and referrals. HELP of Southern Nevada has been a great asset to Walker since joining them as a partner for the Home For The Holidays program.

Letters should be sent to:

Larry Alterwitz, CEO
Walker Furniture

Letters can be mailed by US Postal Service, faxed, hand delivered or e-mailed to [email protected].  Letters can also be submitted online by visiting www.walkerfurniturehomefortheholidays.com. The letters must be received by Dec. 7 to be reviewed. The 28 recipients will be announced at a special luncheon on Dec. 19 at The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.  Furniture deliveries will begin on Dec. 21.

Home for the Holidays is the largest annual charitable endeavor for Walker Furniture, which has a long history of contributing to worthwhile community causes.  The program began in 1994 with deliveries to 12 families.
