Veterans are VIPs at November 5 Hiring Event
9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for Veterans Only, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Open to Public
Goodwill of Southern Nevada, in collaboration with the City of Las Vegas, will hold a hiring event at the East Las Vegas Community Center, located at 250 N. Eastern Ave. on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 where veterans will receive VIP entrance into the event.
This pre-Veterans Day hiring event is an extension of Goodwill of Southern Nevada’s Veteran Integration Program, or VIP. Since its inception in 2012, Goodwill’s VIP has helped nearly 500 veterans and immediate family members secure employment in Southern Nevada.
Although veterans posses many valuable employment skills such as leadership, teamwork, self-discipline and a great work ethic, many returning service members have trouble translating their military experience into civilian terms and face other employment difficulties. Nevada consistently ranks among the top states when it comes to veterans who are unemployed.
Each of the 60+ employers attending the hiring event have open job positions they are currently hiring for. Job seekers should bring a photo ID, DD214 (or other proof of service) and current resume.
Free onsite workshops will also be held at the hiring event, including how to make a great first impression, how to prepare for an interview, and how to become a more efficient job seeker. To sign up for a workshop, please call (702) 214-1645.

ABOUT GOODWILL OF SOUTHERN NEVADA’S VETERAN INTEGRATION PROGRAM (VIP): Goodwill of Southern Nevada launched its Veteran Integration Program (VIP) thanks to a grant from the Nevada Women’s Philanthropy program. One of the unique elements of VIP is that veterans enrolled in the program receive job services from a Goodwill Team Member who is also a veteran. This peer to peer assistance allows for shared empathy and experience, resulting in a higher success rate for veteran job seekers in not only finding, but maintaining employment. Additional funders include Walmart Foundation, Wells Fargo Foundation on behalf of Wells Fargo, N.A.; Citibank (Nevada), N.A.; Bank of America Foundation; Golden Nugget Las Vegas Community Fund of the Nevada Community Foundation; Credit One Bank, N.A.; JPMorgan Chase Foundation; and Humana.
ABOUT GOODWILL OF SOUTHERN NEVADA: Goodwill of Southern Nevada currently operates fourteen retail locations, including two Clearance Centers, in Southern Nevada. Revenue from the sale of donated items at Goodwill retail stores fund Goodwill of Southern Nevada’s job placement and training programs. In 2013, Goodwill of Southern Nevada helped more than 2,000 individuals in Southern Nevada find employment at a variety of businesses, and provided job placement and training services to more than 10,000 people.
