UNLV WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING COMPETES IN THIS WEEK’S MOUNTAIN WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS
Rebels looking to improve on last year’s finish
Thanks to a strong underclassmen group, the UNLV women’s swimming and diving team has high hopes on improving on its finish from a year ago as the Rebels start competition in the 2015 Mountain West Championships on Wednesday in San Antonio. This year’s conference meet will once again be held at the Palo Alto Aquatics Center, and will run from Wednesday-Saturday. The championships will have both a live webstream video of the races and live official results, which can be accessed through links on the UNLVRebels.com site. In addition, the results can be followed though the Meet Mobile app (for a $1.99 fee) on handheld devices and tablets, which can be downloaded from the Apple Store or Google Play.
Rebel Notes
– After starting out the dual meet season at 1-3, the Rebels put together a three-meet win streak, thanks to victories over Bakersfield, US Santa Barbara and Air Force. The team’s other win this year was over former conference rival BYU in November.
– Junior Jessica Wong was named the MW Swimmer of the Week on Jan. 20 after winning a pair of events to help push the Rebels past UCSB.
– UNLV set one new team record in the dual meet season, as freshman Lina Rathsack set a program best mark of 1:01.36 in the 100 breast.
– UNLV added one key midseason transfer in Josefine Hippi, who is expected to help the Rebels distance efforts at the conference meet
– The Rebels bring a deeper roster into this year’s meet, one they hope will top last year’s one total win and overall seventh 7th place finish
