UNLV MOVE UP TO SIXTH AT MOUNTAIN WEST WOMEN’S SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Rebels set two school records on second day

The UNLV women’s swimming and diving team used a strong relay finish and a pair of top-four swims from two seniors on Thursday night to move up to sixth place after the second day of action at the 2014 Mountain West Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships, held at the Palo Alto Aquatic Center. The Rebels now stand with 131 points, nine behind fifth place New Mexico. Boise State has taken over at the top of the standings with 276.5 points.

Thursday’s first event also saw UNLV set its first school record of the year, as the team of Rachel Dixon, Julia Fehervari, Amber Cratsenberg, and Michelle Troup finished in third place with a time of 1:30.82. That was also a NCAA ‘B’ mark.

UNLV scored next in the 500 free, with senior Jessica Heim placing fourth after touching the wall in 4:50.32. Classmate Dixon turned in the Rebels’ highest finish of the meet thus far after earning runner-up honors in the 50 free thanks to a school-record time of 22.31. That would also give Dixon a ‘B’ standard. Two more Rebels scored in the event, with Troup placing 12th (23.12) and Julia Fehervari 15th (23.23).

The four-day meet continues on Friday before concluding on Saturday night.
