SENDER EARNS ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS

Senior Lily Sender is one of 13 players named to CoSIDA’s Academic All-District Team for outstanding work in the classroom and on the field

UNLV Women’s Soccer senior Lily Sender was one of 13 players voted to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for District VIII, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) organization Thursday. The first team selection is UNLV’s first Academic All-District honor since 2013.

The senior from Honolulu, Hawaii, has had a breakout season in her final year with the Rebels. After registering one goal and one assist in her previous three seasons, Sender has exploded this year for seven assists, 11 goals and 29 points, leading the team in the latter two categories. Her goals and points totals also lead the Mountain West Conference and are both ranked top-30 in the nation. Off the field, Sender is majoring in Mechanical Engineering, earning a 3.54 grade-point-average, which is good for third-highest on the team. After graduation, Sender plans to pursue a master’s degree in the same field.

With the All-District honors, Sender is now eligible for consideration for CoSIDA’s Academic All-America award as well.

Student-athletes must be in at least their second season, hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 and be a starter or important reserve to be eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-District teams. District VIII is made up of schools in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Canada. Read CoSIDA’s full release here.
