UNLV’s BLAZAK NAMED MW WOMEN’S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Freshman posted a total of six points over the weekend
UNLV’s Dakota Blazak earned her first career conference weekly honor as she was named the Mountain West Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday morning. She is the second Rebel to earn weekly honors this season, after Jenn Wolfe on Sept. 2, and is the first freshman from UNLV to be honored since the 2001 season.
Blazak, a Las Vegas native, has recently moved into the starting lineup and is making an impact of the Rebels, having posted a total of six points over the weekend while helping the team to a 2-0 record. In the first game, a 3-1 home victory over Air Force on Oct. 25, she scored the game’s first goal in the 12th minute, and then assisted on the next two goals as well. That gave her a career-best four points in the game. She capped off the weekend with another goal in a win at Wyoming on Oct. 27. With the score tied at 1-1 in the second half, Blazak beat the Cowgirl goalkeeper to a cross and headed it in for the score and a 2-1 lead, in what was an eventual 3-2 overtime victory. The win for the Rebels was the first by a MW school on Wyoming’s home field this season.
For the year, Blazak has eight points, all in the past five games, and that ties her for third overall on the team as well. Her other goal this season was a game-winner, in UNLV’s 1-0 win over Colorado State.
The Rebels, 9-8-2 on the season, 4-5 in league play, close out the regular season on Friday at 5 pm at Peter Johann Field against Nevada, Reno, part of the Governor’s Series competition, sponsored by NV Energy. Tickets for the contest at half price at $4 for anyone wearing red.
