YOUNG TABS SECOND MW PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior Desi-Rae Young had career night in victory over Oklahoma
UNLV’s Desi-Rae Young has been named Mountain West Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced today.
The 6-foot-1 senior center led the Lady Rebels to victory in her 100th career game in a UNLV uniform, at Oklahoma 92-76 on Saturday, Dec. 9 and snapped the Sooners’ 17-game non-conference home stand streak. Young put up a career-high 32 points against OU and had 21 points before halftime. The Las Vegas native shot 14-for-23 from the field and drained her first three-pointer of the season, and the second three-pointer of her career. Young added eight rebounds (four offensive, four defensive) to the stat sheet and had two steals for the night.
Young and the Lady Rebels collected a second victory over a Power 5 opponent in the same season and for the first time under head coach Lindy La Rocque. UNLV now sits at 9-0 on the season, for the first time in over two decades and has been ranked No. 23 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll.
This marks the second weekly honor for Young and the fourth Lady Rebel weekly accolade this season.
UNLV will close out the non-conference slate with an East Coast road trip first visiting Seton Hall on Saturday, Dec. 16 with tip-off scheduled for 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET
