OPEN HOUSE FOR UNLV WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SET FOR OCTOBER 24
Fans get their first chance to see this year’s Lady Rebel team
The 2015-16 edition of the UNLV women’s basketball team will be on display for the first time on Saturday, Oct. 24, as the Lady Rebels will be hosting an “Open House” fan event that is free to the public at the Mendenhall Center. The event will start at 2 pm.
This annual event, which is the past was called “Rise ‘N’ Shine”, will give Lady Rebel fans a chance to see this year’s squad in action. The afternoon will included a look at five newcomers to the squad, Paris Strawther, Destiney Lee and Jordyn Bell, as well as sophomore transfers Katie Powell and Jazmin O’Bannon. In addition, Dakota Gonzalez and Dylan Gonzalez will be eligible to play for the UNLV this season after sitting out the 2014-15 campaign. At the conclusion of the event, fans will have the chance to take pictures and get autographs from the players and coaches.
“Open House will be an exciting day for our fans as we show off the new look for UNLV Lady Rebel basketball,” said UNLV women’s basketball head coach Kathy Olivier. “We have several experienced players returning as well as a number of underclassmen that are expected to fill significant roles for our team this season. We always look forward to our season-opening event because it’s a chance for us to interact with our fans and the local community and for them to get an up-close look at our team.”
The Lady Rebels bring back seven players from last year’s squad, including senior starter Aley Rohde, as well as last year’s starting backcourt tandem of Nikki Wheatley (MW All-Freshman) and Brooke Johnson, both sophomores this season. Another key returnee is senior center Amie Callaway.
UNLV opens the season in the Thomas & Mack Center for the third straight year, on Nov. 14 against Southern Utah. That starts a month of home games for the Lady Rebels in the month of November, a total of six games. That’s followed by a month of road games in December. Highlights of the non-conference slate include the first game against USC in 26 years (Dec. 6 in Los Angeles), a two-game road trip to Texas (Houston and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) and the Mountain West season opener on Dec. 30 at Fresno State.
UNLV season tickets are only $75 for 16 home games, while special VIP Courtside Seating is also available for the first time this season.
