UNLV WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HOSTS NEVADA, RENO FRIDAY ON SENIOR NIGHT
Lady Rebels are a perfect 14-0 all-time against the Wolf Pack in Las Vegas
Though the seed for the UNLV women’s basketball team has been set for next week’s MW Championships, that in no way dampers the importance of Friday’s contest against Nevada, Reno, which tips off at 5 pm in the Cox Pavilion. First, it’s Senior Night, and the Lady Rebel seniors (Amanda Anderson, Mia Bell, Rmanii Haynes, Friederike Moderegger) would love to finish their last game in the Cox Pavilion with a win over their in-state rivals. All fans wearing red to the game will receive half off admission ($4), while children 12 and under are always free at Lady Rebel games.
Friday’s game is the second of two games between the two this season in the Governor’s Series, which is presented by NV Energy, an all-sports competition between the two schools. UNLV won the initial series last season, and the Lady Rebels would earn three points on Friday with a victory for a sweep. A win by UNR would tie the series at 1-1, and each school would then receive 1.5 points in the standings, unless there was a deciding rubber match in next week’s league tournament. UNLV currently leads the overall standings this year by a 12-6 score.
The Lady Rebels are also looking for their eighth straight win over their rival from the north. Head coach Kathy Olivier, a former UNLV All-American, is a perfect 7-0 against the Wolf Pack, including a season sweep last season in UNR’s first year in the Mountain West. UNLV has never lost to the Wolf Pack in Las Vegas, having won all previous 14 meetings.
There will be a live webcast of the game featured on the Mountain West Network at UNLVRebels.com, while the UNLV radio broadcast, featuring the call from Adam Candee, Jesse Vineyard and Dominique Harris is available on KSHP 1400 AM and also off a link at UNLVRebels.com.
