UNLV volleyball’s Paris Oliveira was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. It marks the third individual weekly award for the Rebels this season as Chloe Thomas has been twice named Freshman of the Week.
Oliveira (pronounced O-la-veer-uh), a 5-7 libero/defensive specialist from Honolulu, Hawaii, helped the Rebels to their seventh straight win and a 2-0 record last week with wins vs. Pacific and at Arizona State as UNLV claimed the Sparky Invitational title.
The junior was named to the All-Tournament Team after tallying 39 digs over the two matches, leading the Rebels in digs per set at 4.88. She also recorded a .985 reception percentage and added 11 assists.
Against Pacific on Friday, she recorded a match-high and then-season-high 19 digs, and followed that up on Saturday against ASU with a season-high 20 digs.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will open Mountain West play this week at San Jose State and at UNR. The Rebels will face the Spartans on Thursday, September 23 at 6 p.m. and the Wolf Pack on Saturday, September 25 at 1 p.m. Livestream and live stats links will be available at the UNLV volleyball schedule page on UNLVRebels.com.
