REBELS HIT THE ROAD FOR 2022 MW OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

The UNLV track & field team heads to Clovis, California this week for the 2022 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The four-day competition, held at the Veteran’s Memorial Stadium, will run Wednesday through Saturday.
The Scarlet & Gray has a total of 5 student-athletes ranked in the top-12 in the MW event standings entered in the meet.
Junior Alia Scott, who recently dipped her Personal Best under the 1 minute mark for the first time at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Arizona is the highest ranked Rebel coming into this weekends competition, she’s second in the 400m hurdles (59.86), Alia placed 3rd last year at the 2021 Mountain West Outdoor Conference Championship. Senior standout Emma Wahlenmaier, a Psychology major from Las Vegas, sits third in the 800m (2:06.26), Emma has shaved 3 seconds of her personal best this 2022 outdoor season and was 11th last year at this competition.
Senior Elisa Rovere is ranked 11th in the 800m (2:10.62) coming into her final Conference championship. The Udine, Italy native, who got her Master’s in Kinesiology in her time here as a Rebel, finished 7th in the 800m earlier this year at the Mountain West Indoor Championship. Kennedi Porter will make her conference championship debut, the freshman from Etiwanda High School is ranked 10th in the 200m dash (24.02) and freshman Erin Thompson ranks 12th in the high jump with a mark of 1.62m.
Seniors Jasmine Perez and Kaitlyn Menger will also be competing in their final Mountain West Outdoor Conference Championships. Both ladies are also members of this years UNLV USTFCCA All Academic Cross Country team. Both Jasmine, a San Diego native and psychology major and Kaitlyn and Las Vegas local and business management major are competing in the 800 meters.
The Rebels kick the weekend off with Julia Nixon and Rachel Seeley, the pair will start the week off for the Rebels in the women’s heptathlon, scheduled to start Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Thursday’s events will begin at 4 p.m., with the continuation of the women’s heptathlon and the women’s 10,000, finals. Friday will begin with the women’s long jump at 3 p.m. and conclude with the women’s steeplechase at 8:10 p.m. Saturday will begin at 2 p.m. with the women’s discus and conclude at 8:45 p.m. with the women’s 4×400 relay.
