The UNLV track & field team returns to Albuquerque, N.M. this week for the 2022 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships. The three-day competition, held at the Albuquerque Convention Center, will run Thursday through Saturday.
The Scarlet & Gray has a total of 11 student-athletes ranked in the top-20 for nine MW event standings entered in the meet. Led by Cassidy Osborne-Butler who is seated first in the weight throw (19.91m), while Madelyn Wattles ranks 16th (14.86m). Taylor Shorter sits tied for fourth in the 60m hurdles (8.64), Emma Wahlenmaier was entered fifth overall in the 800m (2:10.19), followed closely by Elisa Rovere who ranks sixth (2:10.54).
Natalia Ruiz Lara is 14th in the mile (4:50.36) and 18th in the 800m (2:16.10). AnnaKay Maitland and Karoli Kaart are tied for 13th in the 60m (7.69), Maitland also sits 18th in the 200m (25.16), followed by Alia Scott in 20th with a 25.21. Erin Thompson ranks 20th for high jump 5-01.75 (1.57m) and Jaylen Walker sits 16th in the triple jump 37-10.5 (11.54m).
Rovere, Scott, Wahlenmaier, Ruiz Lara, Kaitlynn Menger and Jasmine Perez will start the weekend off for the Rebels in the 4000m distance medley relay, scheduled to start Thursday at 3:20 p.m. (PT). Friday’s action begins at 12 p.m. (PT) with the women’s long jump and Saturday will start at 10:10 a.m. (PT) with the women’s mile finals.
