FOURTEEN REBELS HONORED WITH NFCA ALL-AMERICA SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD
Rebels top-50 in team grade-point average, student-athletes recognized for earning a 3.5 GPA or higher
Fourteen members of the 2021 UNLV softball team were named Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete award winners for the 2020-21 academic year, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Tuesday. The Rebels were also honored with a team GPA award as they were top-50 among Division I programs, ranking 49th overall.
Nine individual honorees are current Rebels – seniors Jenny Bressler, Samantha Diaz, Mia Trejo and Julia Vollmer, junior Maddie Schmidt, and sophomores Alyssa Lopez, Zoe Nolte, Jenna Perez and Hailey Schmaltz – and five are former Rebels – Jaclyn Candelas, Statia Cermak, Justine Federe, Raechelle Seil and Lauren Tycksen.
Over 8,800 student-athletes were recognized as award winners, setting a new NFCA record and marking a second straight year over 8,000 recipients. The honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association’s membership categories. NCAA Division I had 1,982 student-athletes that earned a 3.5 grade-point average or higher in 2020-21.
The UNLV softball team begins its fall schedule Friday, hosting Snow College at Eller Media Stadium at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Fans are welcome and can enter for free.
