Rebels host key contest Friday night with Air Force
UNLV men’s soccer made an impressive jump in the NSCAA West Region rankings on Tuesday, jumping all the way from sixth to No. 1 after a 2-0 weekend on the road against a pair of regionally ranked WAC opponents.
The Rebels also nearly broke into the NSCAA Top 25 as well. UNLV received 31 points in this week’s poll released on Tuesday, leaving them as the top team in the receiving votes category, eight points behind No. 25 Coastal Carolina. The last time UNLV was ranked by NSCAA nationally was in 1992.
UNLV made its big move thanks to a weekend that saw a 3-1 win at Seattle, the previous top team in the West, and a 1-0 victory at Utah Valley.
The Rebels return to action Friday with a 7 pm contest against Air Force at Peter Johann Memorial Field. It will be Breast Cancer Awareness Night, and all fans wearing pink will receive half price admission. It’s also military appreciation night, and again half price admission for anyone with a military ID.
Friday will also see the Rebels’ celebrate the 40th anniversary of the program. A special halftime recognition featuring players and coaches from throughout the program’s history will be held.
ADDITIONAL NOTES: The Rebels entered College Soccer News Top 30 poll on Monday at No. 27 … UNLV’s RPI also made a significant move, from 81 up to 32 in the Oct. 13 ratings … UNLV ranks in the top ten in the nation for scoring, tied for sixth with 28 total goals … UNLV’s winning percentage of .792 (9-1-2) is tied for eighth in the nation.
