UNLV men’s golfers J.J. Gresco, David Rauch and Jack Trent have been named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, as the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced the first wave of recipients for the award on Wednesday. A second announcement that will include the second wave of nominations as well as those schools on the quarter system will be announced in July.
This marks the fourth straight year that UNLV has had at least two All-America Scholar honorees. All three of UNLV’s representatives this year are first-time recipients.
Trent, a rising senior, was named to the All-Mountain West Team and earned honorable mention All-America honors in April. Gresco is also a rising senior, while Rauch is a rising junior.
It was a record-setting year for the All-America Scholar award as 614 student-athletes were recognized, the most since the award’s inception in 1982. A total of 376 players are from NCAA Division I schools.
To be eligible, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate’s Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. This is also the first year that sophomores could be included. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 (for Division I) and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. They also must have participated in at least 40 percent of the team’s competitive rounds this season.
