REBELS TIED FOR 10TH AFTER FIRST DAY AT SPRING SEASON OPENER

The UNLV men’s golf team shot a first-round 11-over-par 291 and 9-over 289 during the second round on Monday at the Sea Best Invitational, which is being played at TPC Sawgrass (Dye’s Valley Course – 6,790 yards, par 70).
No. 12 Texas A&M is the team leader at 7-under (281-272), followed by Florida at 6-under. No. 13 North Carolina is third at even par, Liberty is fourth at 2-over and Campbell rounds out the top five at 6-over. The Rebels are tied for 10th at 20-over.
Individually, Texas A&M’s William Paysse holds a one-shot lead at 6-under (71-63). USC Upstate’s Reid Bedell is second at 5-under and there is a three-way tie for third at 3-under.
UNLV sophomore David Rauch was the Rebels’ top individual performer as he is tied for 37th at 4-over.
There are 14 teams and 84 individuals competing. The final round will begin on Tuesday at 8 a.m. ET.

NOTABLE:
- Junior Jack Trent has recorded one career individual victory (2019 Southern Highlands Collegiate).
- UNLV lost Mountain West Golfer of the Year and All-America Scholar Harry Hall to graduation following last season. He competed at the prestigious Walker Cup in September, becoming just the third Rebel in program history to be invited.
- The Rebels have welcomed four new players to this year’s roster.
- Last year’s team appeared in a NCAA-record 31st straight regional and advanced to the national finals where it finished in the top 20.
- Trent and Rauch are UNLV’s returning All-Mountain West performers. Trent competed at the PGA Tour’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas in October thanks to an amateur exemption with his win at the SHC. He made the cut and finished tied for 29th.
- Senior Justin Kim, who turned in UNLV’s best individual finish at the NCAA Finals last season, was also named an All-America Scholar.
- This year marks head coach Dwaine Knight’s 33rd season leading the Rebel program.
