UNLV NAMED GOLFWEEK’S NATIONAL TEAM OF THE WEEK

Rebels also move up to No. 24 in the country in publication’s rankings after winning Collegiate Masters, which included seven of nation’s top-10 ranked teams

The UNLV men’s golf team was named Golfweek’s National Team of the Week on Monday after its team title at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters, which wrapped up Sunday in Las Vegas.

The prestigious tournament, which annually features one of the toughest fields in college golf, included seven of the top-10 ranked teams in the country (according to Golfweek). In addition, 11 of the 15 teams competing were ranked in the top 20 and all participants were among the nation’s top 50. The field also featured 20 of the top-30 ranked individuals.

UNLV held the lead at the end of each round throughout the tournament and the victory was the team’s second in the last three years at the event, fifth in the last seven years and seventh in the last 10.

UNLV finished with a 54-hole total of 22-over 886, two shots ahead of Stanford and Oklahoma State. It was the Rebels’ second win of the season as it also captured the title at the Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach in September. The Rebels have finished in the top five in three of their six events this year.

In addition to being named the national team of the week, UNLV moved into the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings Top 25, going from 33rd to No. 24 on Monday.

The Rebels will be back in action at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz., this Saturday-Sunday, March 15-16.
