UNLV MEN’S GOLF JUMPS OUT TO BIG LEAD AT JACKRABBIT INVITATIONAL


Five Rebel individuals are among the top eight after two rounds at tournament in Boulder City hosted by South Dakota State

The UNLV men’s golf team shot rounds of 6-under-par 282 and 9-under 279 on the first day of the 12th Annual Jackrabbit Invitational and holds a 13-shot lead. The tournament, hosted in the Rebels’ backyard by South Dakota State, is being played at Boulder Creek Golf Club (par 72, 7,402 yards).

 

The Rebels have a total of eight individuals competing – five counting toward the team score with three independent. All UNLV players are among the top 22 at the event that features 61 golfers. Five of them are among the top eight.

 

UNLV senior J.J. Gresco, playing as an individual, turned in the top score of any Rebel on Friday as he is 7-under 137, three shots off the lead. Gresco had rounds of 4-under 68 and 3-under 69. Junior David Rauch is fourth at 6-under, senior Jack Trent and sophomore George Leigh are tied for fifth at 3-under and sophomore Jack Kozlowski is eighth at 2-under.

 

The Rebels’ 36-hole total is 15-under 561. Southern Utah is second at 2-under, South Dakota State is third at 11-over, Utah State is fourth at 12-over and SIU Edwardsville rounds out the top five at 13-over. There are a total of nine teams competing.

 

Individually, Southern Utah’s Jake Vincent holds a two shot lead over South Dakota State’s Matthew Schaefer. Vincent is at 10-under 134 with two rounds of 5-under 67.

 

UNLV’s low round of the day (68) was turned in by both Gresco and Trent. Gresco’s came during the first round with an eagle, three birdies and a bogey, while Trent’s was during the second with six birdies and two bogeys.

 

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: The tournament will conclude with a final round of 18 holes on Saturday.
