UNLV MEN’S GOLF FINISHES EIGHTH AT ISLEWORTH COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL
Kitayama and McInerney were top Rebel individuals at fall season’s final tournament
The UNLV men’s golf team shot a final-round 17-over-par 305 on Tuesday and finished in eighth place at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational, which was played at Isleworth Golf and Country Club (par 72, 7,387 yards).
UNLV finished the 54-hole event at 15-over 879. Alabama won the team title at 26-under 838 after a final-round 2-under 286, while UCF finished second at 14-under. California was third at 5-under, followed by Florida State in fourth at 4-over, Illinois in fifth at 5-over, Vanderbilt in sixth at 11-over and Texas in seventh at 13-over. The tournament featured 15 teams.
Individually, Alabama’s Trey Mullinax earned medalist honors by four shots at 11-under 205. He shot 1-under 71 during the final round. Florida State’s Hank Lebioda finished second at 7-under.
UNLV’s top individual finishers were junior Kurt Kitayama and sophomore AJ McInerney, who both tied for 24th at 3-over 219. Kitayama shot 6-over during the final round, while McInerney was 3-over.
Other Rebels: junior Carl Jonson tied for 40th at 7-over 223 after a final-round 4-over, sophomore Zane Thomas tied for 43rd at 8-over 224 after a final-round 10-over, and freshman Taylor Montgomery finished 54th at 10-over 226 after a final-round 4-over. There were a total of 75 individuals competing.
The Isleworth Collegiate Invitational was UNLV’s last tournament of the fall season. The spring season will begin for the Rebels on Feb. 19 in Hawaii at the John Burns Intercollegiate.
