PENNER EARNS ALL-MW HONORS
UNLV men’s golf senior named to all-conference team for third straight year
For the third straight year, UNLV senior Kevin Penner has been selected to the 10-person All-Mountain West Men’s Golf Team, as the conference announced its 2012-13 awards on Thursday.
Penner, a Sammamish, Wash., native, leads this year’s team in scoring average at 72.31 over 29 rounds. In 10 tournament played this year, he has recorded six top-10 finishes, including four in the top five and earned individual medalist honors at last weekend’s MW Championship.
Penner ranks sixth in the conference in scoring average and has recorded eight rounds this season in the 60s. He was also named honorable mention All-America last season.
New Mexico’s James Erkenbeck earned the league’s Golfer of the Year award, while San Diego State’s Riccardo Michelini was named Freshman of the Year and New Mexico’s Glen Millican received Coach of the Year honors.
UNLV has been awarded the No. 6 seed at the NCAA’s Columbus Regional, which will be played at The Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, beginning Thursday, May 16.
