NO. 24 UNLV MEN’S GOLF BACK IN ACTION ON MONDAY-TUESDAY
Rebels travel to Alabama for the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, Oct. 6-7
2014-15 UNLV Men’s Golf Statistics
The UNLV men’s golf team, ranked 24th in the country in both the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings as well as the Golf Coaches Association of America Poll, will be back in action Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 6-7, at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. The tournament will be played at Old Overton Country Club (par 70, 7,209 yards) in Vestavia Hills, Ala.
The 12-team field includes host No. 14 Alabama, Arkansas, Charlotte, No. 4 Florida State, Mississippi State, Georgia State, No. 2 Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Texas-San Antonio, UAB and No. 24 UNLV. The 54-hole stroke-play tournament will consist of 36 holes (first and second rounds) on Monday and 18 holes (final round) on Tuesday.
Competing for UNLV will be seniors Kurt Kitayama and Carl Jonson, sophomore Taylor Montgomery, freshman John Oda and sophomore Chris Tuulik.
Alabama has won the JPNI in six of the last eight years, including last season by 16 shots with a score of 11-under 829. UAB’s Wilson McDonald earned medalist honors by three shots at 8-under 202 at last year’s event. UNLV finished ninth last year at 41-over, while Kitayama and Jonson were the Rebels’ top finishers (both tied for 36th at 10-over).

This will be UNLV’s third tournament of the fall. The Rebels won the team title at the season-opening Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., then finished sixth at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M. Montgomery earned medalist honors at the Falcon Invitational.
