NO. 16 UNLV MEN’S GOLF FINISHES NINTH IN ALABAMA
Jonson and Kitayama lead Rebels at Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate

The No. 16 UNLV men’s golf team shot a final-round 11-over-par 291 on Tuesday and finished in ninth place at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, which was played at Old Overton Golf Club (par 70, 7,204 yards).
Host and No. 1 Alabama successfully defended its tournament title by winning the event for the second straight year and sixth time in the last eight seasons. The Crimson Tide won this year’s tournament by 16 shots at 11-under 829 after a final-round 3-under 277. No. 2 Texas A&M was second at 5-over 845, followed by No. 12 UAB in third at 6-over.
Texas finished fourth at 12-over, followed by Auburn in fifth at 17-over. UNLV’s 54-hole total was 41-over 881. Twelve teams competed at this year’s tournament.
UAB’s Wilson McDonald earned medalist honors by three shots at 8-under 202 after a final-round even-par 70. Alabama’s Trey Mullinax was 2-under on Tuesday to finish second at 5-under 205. There were only a total of five individuals to finish the tournament under par.
UNLV was led by juniors Carl Jonson and Kurt Kitayama, who both finished tied for 36th at 10-over 220. Jonson’s final round was a 3-over 73, while Kitayama shot 5-over 75.
Other Rebels: sophomore Zane Thomas finished tied for 39th at 11-over 221 after a final-round 1-over 71, while sophomore AJ McInerney and freshman Chris Tuulik both finished tied for 49th at 15-over 225 after final rounds of 2-over 72 and 6-over 76, respectively. There were a total of 60 individuals.
The Rebels will be back in action Oct 20-22 at the Isleworth Intercollegiate in Orlando, Fla.
