NO. 15 UNLV MEN’S GOLF TO COMPETE IN CALIFORNIA THIS WEEK
Rebels will play at 24-team The Goodwin hosted by Stanford, Thursday-Saturday
The No. 15 UNLV men’s golf team will continue its spring season at The Goodwin, which is hosted by Stanford and held at Stanford Golf Course (par 70, 6,727 yards) in Palo Alto, Calif., Thursday-Saturday, March 30-April 1.
The tournament features a 24-team field: host No. 12 Stanford, No. 1 USC, No. 5 Oregon, the Rebels, No. 19 Colorado, BYU, Cal Poly, Chico State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Marquette, Nevada, Reno, Northern Colorado, Oregon State, Pacific, Pepperdine, San Francisco, San Jose State, SMU, St. Mary’s, UC Davis, UCLA, Washington and Wyoming.
The 54-hole tournament will consist of 18 holes each day with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. The lineup for the Rebels at The Goodwin will consist of juniors John Oda and Shintaro Ban, sophomore Harry Hall, freshman Justin Kim and senior Taylor Montgomery.
Originally named the ‘United States Intercollegiate,’ the event was renamed ‘The Goodwin’ prior to the 2014 edition in honor of former Stanford head coach Wally Goodwin.
UNLV has now played in nine tournaments during the 2016-17 season and has recorded a first, four seconds and a third-place finish.
UNLV finished second as a team at last year’s The Goodwin, 10 shots behind team champion UC Davis (-13). UC Davis’ Luke Vivolo (-10) earned medalist honors by a shot, while UNLV’s top finisher was Oda (-8), who placed third, two shots back.
