Video Preview  | Season Statistics

The No. 11 UNLV men’s golf team will return to action this weekend as it competes at the 60th Annual William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the UNM Championship Course (par 72, 7,562 yards) in Albuquerque, N.M.

The two-day, 54-hole stroke-play tournament hosted by New Mexico, will have two rounds (36 holes) on Friday, Sept. 26 with an 8:00 a.m. MT shotgun start/continuous play, and will conclude with a final round of 18 holes on Saturday, Sept. 27, also with an 8:00 a.m. MT shotgun start.

Competing for the Rebels will be seniors Kurt Kitayama and Carl Jonson, junior Zane Thomas, sophomore Taylor Montgomery and freshman Ben Davis. Competing as individuals are freshman John Oda and junior AJ McInerney.

The Rebels are coming off a dominant performance at their season opener, which was earlier this month at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo. UNLV captured the team title at 26-under par, which was one stroke off the tournament record, while Montgomery and McInerney finished one-two in the individual standings with three other Rebels earning top-10 finishes. It was the first career win for Montgomery.

The Tucker Intercollegiate will have a field of 15 teams (Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings in parenthesis): Arizona, BYU, Colorado (20), Colorado State (32), Louisiana-Lafayette (41), Minnesota, New Mexico (33), New Mexico State, San Diego State, TCU (15), Texas Tech (16), UNLV (11), UT Arlington, UTEP and Wyoming.

New Mexico is the two-time defending Tucker team champion as the Lobos recorded an 18-shot victory at the 2013 event. New Mexico’s Gavin Green is also looking to three-peat as he has earned medalist honors at the event each of the last two years. Last year he won in a playoff after recording a 54-hole score of 5-under. UNLV finished fourth as a team at last year’s Tucker (24-over), while its top individual finisher was Thomas who tied for fourth (1-over). Kitayama also placed in the top 10 (tied for seventh at 2-over).
