UNLV HOSTS UNR ON SATURDAY AT 3 PM
1987 Final Four team to be honored during halftime of Governor’s Series game
The UNLV men’s basketball team will be back home at the Thomas & Mack Center to host intrastate rival Nevada, Reno on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m.
The game is also a part of the Governor’s Series, presented by NV Energy and Barrick Gold, which is a head-to-head athletic and academic challenge between UNLV and UNR. The winner of the season series in men’s basketball will earn three points toward the final score. UNLV has won each of the first four years of the overall competition.
Saturday will mark the second meeting between the Runnin’ Rebels and the Wolf Pack, as UNR won the first 104-77 in Reno on Feb. 8.
UNLV’s 1987 NCAA Final Four team will be honored at halftime on Saturday, while the first 1,000 students in attendance will receive a free t-shirt, courtesy of Hatari Restaurant and Sports Bar.
UNLV is led in scoring by junior guard Jovan Mooring (12.5 ppg), who is one of four Runnin’ Rebels averaging in double figures. Senior forward Christian Jones leads the team in rebounding (6.5 rpg), while Mooring also is tops in assists (3.9 apg, 2nd in MW).
Nevada, Reno, which is 6-4 in true road games this season, has won three straight games and four of five overall, including Wednesday at home against Boise State (85-77). Senior guard Marcus Marshall leads the team and MW in scoring (19.4 ppg), while three other Wolf Pack players are also in double figures. Sophomore guard/forward Jordan Caroline (9.1 rpg) and sophomore forward Cameron Oliver (8.5 rpg) are ranked 2nd and 3rd in the league in rebounding. Sophomore guard Lindsay Drew leads the team and MW in assists (5.0 apg).
Saturday’s game will be televised by CBS Sports Network with Rich Waltz and Danny Granger calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM and online (link at UNLVRebels.com).
