THREE RUNNIN’ REBELS WILL NOT RETURN NEXT SEASON
Troy Baxter Jr., Zion Morgan and Jalen Poyser will depart UNLV men’s basketball program
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Three members of the UNLV men’s basketball program – Troy Baxter Jr., Zion Morgan and Jalen Poyser – will not return next season, head coach Marvin Menzies announced Wednesday.
“While these decisions are very difficult, the outcomes always represent the best interest of our student-athletes,” Menzies said. “The Runnin’ Rebel family is greatly appreciative of the commitment and contributions of each of these young men. We will support them in every way possible with their transition to pursue their athletic and academic goals.”
Baxter Jr., and Morgan were true freshmen during the 2016-17 season, each completing one year in the program, while Poyser, a sophomore, spent two years at UNLV.
Baxter Jr., a 6-foot-8-inch forward from Tallahassee, Fla., appeared in 23 of UNLV’s 32 games this season, averaging 4.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
Morgan, a 6-foot-5-inch guard from Chicago, played in 27 games and started five of them. He averaged 2.8 ppg and 1.3 rpg.
Poyser, a 6-foot-4-inch guard from Malton, Ontario, Canada, averaged 10.4 ppg, 2.7 rpg and 2.6 assists per game in 31 games played this year (21 starts). He averaged 7.8 ppg over his two seasons as a Runnin’ Rebel.
