RUNNIN’ REBELS TO HOST SOUTHERN ILLINOIS MONDAY
7 p.m. game at Thomas & Mack Center part of MW-MVC Challenge
After playing at No. 22 Oregon in Portland on Saturday night, the UNLV men’s basketball team (6-5) returns home to the Thomas & Mack Center to host Southern Illinois (6-5) on Monday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. The game is part of the annual Mountain West-Missouri Valley Conference Challenge.
The Runnin’ Rebels and the Las Vegas Fire Department are coordinating a “Teddy Bear Toss” for the beginning of halftime during Monday’s game. Fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed toy with them to the game to participate. For every toy, fans will receive a free ticket to the conference opener against Wyoming on Dec. 31 (limit 2 per person).
For UNLV students, attendance to Monday’s game earns early access to the student section for Thursday’s game against No. 3 Kansas at the Thomas & Mack Center. Details are available on the ticket promotions page at UNLVRebels.com.
Led by sophomore guard Jalen Poyser (15.0 ppg) and senior forward Tyrell Green (13.3 ppg), the Runnin’ Rebels have played their last two games without their two leading rebounders, out with injuries: junior forward Dwayne Morgan (7.3 rpg) and senior forward Christian Jones (6.5 rpg).
SIU is coming off a 70-55 win over Saint Louis on Wednesday. That snapped a two-game losing streak for the Salukis (at Louisville, 74-51; vs. Sam Houston State, 79-73). Three SIU players average double figures in scoring, led by senior guard Mike Rodriguez (13.9 ppg).
Monday’s game will not be televised, but a live free stream will be available online on the Mountain West Network/UNLVRebels.com with Tony Cordasco and Jevon Banks calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM and online (link at UNLVRebels.com).
