UNLV HOSTS SAN DIEGO STATE TUESDAY AT 7 PM
Runnin’ Rebels looking for second straight win after weekend with no game.
After winning at New Mexico, 71-66, last Tuesday, the UNLV men’s basketball team (9-9, 2-3 MW) had the weekend off. The Runnin’ Rebels will be back in action this Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center to host San Diego State (10-7, 2-3 MW).
The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a drawstring backpack courtesy of Cox Communications, while the first 1,500 students will receive a free Rebellion t-shirt.
UNLV, which is 7-4 at home this year, is led in scoring by sophomore guard Jalen Poyser (13.3 ppg), senior forward Tyrell Green (12.1 ppg), senior forward Christian Jones (10.6 ppg), junior guard Jovan Mooring (9.6 ppg) and sophomore guard Kris Clyburn (8.4 ppg). Jones (6.5 rpg), Clyburn (6.1 rpg) and Green (5.8 rpg) are the team’s leading rebounders, while Mooring (3.7 apg) and Poyser (3.3 apg) lead in assists. Mooring leads the Mountain West in conference-only games in assists (5.6 apg). Junior forward Dwayne Morgan was leading the team in rebounding (7.3 rpg), but has missed the last nine games because of injury.
San Diego State started MW play 0-3, but has won two straight, both at home: vs. San José State (76-61) last Tuesday and vs. Utah State (74-55) on Saturday. The Aztecs are 0-5 in true road games this season. SDSU is led in scoring by sophomore guard Jeremy Hemsley (16.1 ppg), junior guard Trey Kell (12.6 ppg) and sophomore forward Zylan Cheatham (10.8 ppg). Cheatham leads in rebounding (6.7 rpg), while Kell is the team’s assist leader (3.1 apg).
