RUNNIN’ REBELS HOST OAKLAND FRIDAY NIGHT
Season-opening seven-game homestand continues against Golden Grizzlies at 7 p.m. at Thomas & Mack Center
After defeating UC Riverside, 72-51, on Tuesday for its first victory of the season, the UNLV men’s basketball team will continue its season-opening seven-game homestand on Friday, Nov. 16 vs. Oakland at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.
It will be International Education Night, as part of International Education Week on the UNLV campus.
Tickets to Friday’s game may be purchased at UNLVtickets.com, by calling 702-739-FANS (3267) or by visiting the Thomas & Mack Center Box Office. Season tickets, group tickets and a five-game plan are also available.
The 2018-19 season marks the third under head coach Marvin Menzies for the Runnin’ Rebels. UNLV returns seven student-athletes who saw action last season, which is the most for the program from the previous season in seven years. This year’s team adds two transfer redshirts and six freshmen. Last year, UNLV won 20 games for the first time in four years. It also marked a nine-game improvement in the win column from the previous season.
The Runnin’ Rebels (1-1) have been led in scoring so far this season by senior forward Shakur Juiston (9.0 ppg). Juiston and sophomore forward Mbacke Diong are the tied for the team lead in rebounds (6.5 rpg).
Oakland (0-2) opened the season with a one-point loss at home to Toledo (87-86), then fell in overtime at home to Western Michigan (85-77) on Tuesday.
Friday’s game will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network/UNLVRebels.com with Tony Cordasco and Marcus Bowman calling the action. Jon Sandler and former Runnin’ Rebel Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM and online via the UNLV Gameday App and TuneIn (link at UNLVRebels.com).
