RUNNIN’ REBELS HOST COLORADO STATE WEDNESDAY AT 8 PM
UNLV men’s basketball team looks to even season series with Rams
After a heartbreaking loss at Boise State (91-90) in overtime on Saturday, the UNLV men’s basketball team will look to bounce back as it hosts Colorado State on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 8:05 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center. Deville Smith made what appeared to be the game-winning shot at Boise State – a 3-pointer as time expired in overtime – but after an officials review, it was determined the ball was still on his finger tips as the clock hit 0.0.
This will be the second meeting in the regular season this year between the Runnin’ Rebels and Rams. CSU won the first meeting, 75-57, on Feb. 5 in Fort Collins, Colo. UNLV is in a three-way tie for third place in the Mountain West at 8-6, while Colorado State is alone in eighth place at 6-9.
Wednesday’s game against the Rams will be televised by CBS Sports Network with Rich Waltz and Doug Gottlieb calling the action, and Kristine Leahy on the sidelines. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the radio call, which may be heard on ESPN Radio 1100/98.9 FM. The radio broadcast listen link along with Gametracker are available at UNLVRebels.com.
The Runnin’ Rebels are tied for third in the country in blocked shots per game at 6.7, fifth in the nation in 3-point field-goal defense, limiting their opponents to just 28.4 percent from behind the arc, are 12th in effective field-goal percentage defense at 43.8 and 13th in rebounding at 39.9 per game. Khem Birch is third in the country in blocked shots (3.8 bpg), while Roscoe Smith is fifth in the nation in rebounding (11.1 rpg). Smith is fifth in the country in double-doubles (15), while Birch is sixth (14). Bryce Dejean-Jones leads the team in scoring with 13.6 ppg.
