Off to a 6-1 start on the season after falling in overtime in its first road game of the year, the UNLV men’s basketball team will return home to the Thomas & Mack Center for its most anticipated game of the 2017-18 non-conference schedule, vs. Arizona on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.
Several giveaways are planned: the first 3,000 fans will receive a free Rebel Red Koozie (courtesy of SNWA), the first 750 students will receive a free t-shirt (courtesy of Terrible Herbst), and the first 300 fans will receive a voucher for a free popcorn. There is also a student tailgate planned outside the venue at the Tark Statue from 5-6 p.m. with free food, drinks, music and more.

The Runnin’ Rebels rank as the top rebounding team in the country, while they are fifth in 3-point field-goal percentage defense, eighth in assists per game and 10th in scoring, averaging 92.3 points per contest. Individually, junior forward Shakur Juiston is the nation’s top rebounder at 13.0 rpg, while freshman forward Brandon McCoy is fifth at 12.1 rpg. They both rank fifth in double-doubles with five apiece, while senior guard Jordan Johnson is ninth in the country in assists per game (7.6).
The 2017-18 season marks the second under head coach Marvin Menzies for the Runnin’ Rebels. Menzies and his staff have brought in a recruiting class for this year that has been ranked as high as No. 12 in the country and features McCoy, who was a McDonald’s High School All-American, and Juiston, last year’s National Junior College Player of the Year. The Runnin’ Rebels also return their leading scorer from last season – senior guard Jovan Mooring. Five Runnin’ Rebels are averaging double figures, led by McCoy’s 18.6 ppg.
Saturday’s game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network with Rich Waltz, Steve Lappas and Melanie Collins (sideline) calling the action. Jon Sandler and former Runnin’ Rebel Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM and online via the UNLV Gameday App and TuneIn (link at UNLVRebels.com).
