· The week of activity, which includes a number of fan interactive and engagement opportunities, will begin with the UNLV Basketball Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Event at 5:30 p.m. that day (Oct. 18) at Cox Pavilion. All men’s and women’s basketball season ticket holders will be invited to the reception where guests can meet and mingle with both the Runnin’ Rebels and Lady Rebels. The event will also feature a Q&A program hosted by long-time Runnin’ Rebel radio play-by-play broadcaster Jon Sandler, and end with an autograph session.
· Oct. 18 will also be the date of the Scarlet & Gray Showcase, which will be free and open to the public. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. It will be the first look at this year’s men’s and women’s basketball teams and will feature team introductions, a scrimmage by both squads, a dunk contest, and much more. Fans in attendance will receive an exclusive poster and the first 1,000 students will get a free t-shirt.
· On Saturday, Oct. 21, when UNLV football hosts Utah State for Homecoming, the Runnin’ Rebels will be in attendance pregame at the Rebel Block Party. The team will be introduced and available for autographs, will participate in the game’s Rebel Entourage (leading the football team across the field before kickoff), and then be introduced on-field during the first half.
· The Slam Dunk Social for Ladies will be held on Sunday, Oct. 22, from 2-4 p.m. at the Mendenhall Center. Space is limited and tickets are just $25. The event will include a basketball clinic for women that will offer a behind-the-scenes experience and a crash course in Runnin’ Rebel basketball. Light appetizers and a Q&A will follow the clinic and all attendees will receive a free t-shirt. To register for the event, contact Sara Seronko in the men’s basketball office at [email protected] or 702-895-3295.
Other items scheduled to take place during the week include Runnin’ Rebel single-game tickets going on sale, men’s and women’s basketball hand delivering season tickets to select fans in the area, Runnin’ Rebel head coach Marvin Menzies’ local media tour, a local community outreach event and a ticket call-a-thon.
Additional details on the week’s events will be communicated once confirmed.
UNLV, which is in its second year under Coach Menzies, has brought in a recruiting class that has been ranked as high as No. 12 in the country. Seven new players have been added to the roster for the 2017-18 season, including McDonald’s High School All-American Brandon McCoy and National Junior College Player of the Year Shakur Juiston. The team also returns its leading scorer from last year in senior guard Jovan Mooring.
