‘RUNNIN’ REBEL WEEK’ TO BEGIN OCT. 15 WITH OPEN SCRIMMAGE AT THOMAS & MACK CENTER
Other events include Slam Dunk Social for Ladies on Oct. 17 and Runnin’ Rebel Madness at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center on Oct. 22
With various events scheduled over a span of one week to help tip off the UNLV men’s basketball season, Oct. 15-22 has been dubbed ‘Runnin’ Rebel Week,’ the athletics department announced Wednesday.
That week of Runnin’ Rebel activity will begin on Thursday, Oct. 15, with the Scarlet & Gray Scrimmage, which is free and open to the public. The intrasquad scrimmage at the Thomas & Mack Center will begin at 7 p.m., with doors to the arena opening at 6 p.m.
Then, the program will host the Runnin’ Rebel Slam Dunk Social for Ladies on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 2-4 p.m. at the Mendenhall Center. The event is a basketball clinic for women that will offer a behind-the-scenes experience and a crash course in Runnin’ Rebel basketball. More information may be found here. To register, please contact Christin Downing in the men’s basketball office at 702-895-3295 or by email at [email protected]. The cost of the event is $50.
The week will close with the free Runnin’ Rebel Madness event at the Downtown Las Vegas Event Center on Thursday, Oct. 22. Tarkanian Court from the Thomas & Mack Center will be taken to the heart of Las Vegas for the music-festival style, midnight madness type event that will include a Runnin’ Rebel dunk contest. Complete information may be found here.
“We are excited to begin the 2015-16 season and get out in front of the fans,” head coach Dave Rice said. “Runnin’ Rebel Week is a great way to start our year. We look forward to seeing many of the Runnin’ Rebel faithful out during the course of the week.”
A limited number of season tickets in the lower bowl of the Thomas & Mack Center for the 2015-16 UNLV men’s basketball season are on sale now. They may be purchased online at UNLVtickets.com, by calling 702-739-FANS (3267) or in person at the Thomas & Mack Center box office.
Rice is in his fifth season as head coach of the Runnin’ Rebel program. UNLV returns seven scholarship players from last year’s roster with six newcomers making up another highly regarded recruiting class. After a top-five class in 2014, Rivals has this year’s Runnin’ Rebel class ranked No. 11 in the country.
