UNLV ATHLETICS TO PARTICIPATE IN NEVADA READING WEEK
Rebels will read at more than 20 local schools over the next week
Representatives from UNLV Athletics will serve as guest readers at more than 20 local schools in celebration of Nevada Reading Week, which officially runs from Monday, Feb. 25 – Friday, March 1.
Head men’s soccer coach Rich Ryerson and the men’s soccer team are scheduled to be a part of reading week activities taking place at Mabel Hoggard Elementary on Friday, Feb. 22, at 8 a.m., while head football coach Bobby Hauck and his entire coaching staff are set to visit schools on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 10:30 a.m. Hauck will be encouraging students at John S. Park Elementary.
Lady Rebel head coach Kathy Olivier and student-athletes from her team will motivate students at K.O. Knudson Middle School on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at noon, while members of the UNLV Cheer squad will appear at Paradise Elementary throughout the week with head cheer coach Nakia Jackson-Hale stopping by on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 1:10 p.m.
Assistant women’s soccer coach Cortney Sobrero and members of the women’s soccer team will interact with young readers at C.T. Sewell Elementary on Friday, March 1, at 1 p.m. High-achieving readers at John C. Bass Elementary will earn the chance to participate in a tennis clinic conducted by head men’s tennis coach Owen Hambrook and the men’s tennis team on Monday, March 18, at 1:45 p.m.
Nevada Reading Week was established in 1987 as a statewide initiative for Nevada teachers and librarians to celebrate reading through shared thematic activities. Youth reading represents a key area of focus for the community outreach efforts of UNLV Athletics.
