UNLV REBEL GIRLS WIN “SCARLET. GRAY. EVERY DAY.” COMMUNITY OUTREACH COMPETITION

Team will deliver more than 325 books and school supplies to students at Robert E. Lake Elementary School on Friday

The UNLV Rebel Girls have won the 2012-13 “Scarlet. Gray. Every Day.” Community Outreach Competition. Recording 19,860 minutes (15.75 hours per team member) over the course of the challenge, which ran from Sept. 3, 2012 to Mar. 31, 2013, and included all 17 sports programs as well as cheer/dance and athletic training, the Rebel Girls claimed the top spot with UNLV softball and UNLV cheer following in second and third place, respectively.

Many hours dedicated by the Rebel Girls to growing The Lindsay Bennett Memorial helped to boost UNLV Athletics’ overall point total and secure a second-place finish in the Mountain West Student-Athlete Advisory Council’s annual community outreach challenge, which concluded in February.

Part of the reward for winning the athletic department’s internal competition includes carrying out one final community service project before the Spring semester ends. A Target Campus Grant will allow the Rebel Girls to deliver more than 325 books and school supplies to students at Robert E. Lake Elementary School during a pep rally on Friday, May 10, at 1:30 p.m. Youth reading remains a key area of focus for the community outreach efforts of UNLV Athletics.
