UNLV TO HOST NATIONAL GIRLS AND WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY ON SATURDAY
The UNLV Lady Rebels and the UNLV Athletic Department will hosting over 300 kids at a free sports clinic on Saturday in the 29th annual celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, which will be held at UNLV on Saturday, Feb. 7 prior to the women’s basketball game against Colorado State. Space is limited for the event, so parents are encouraged to sign up their children early.
For this year’s NGWSD, players and staff from several women’s athletic teams at UNLV, including the basketball, volleyball, soccer, cheer and dance teams will be helping to run an all-sports clinic for kids (girls and boys) between 2nd and 8th grades at the Mendenhall Center. Doors open at 12:45 for registration while the clinic starts at 1:30 pm with different stations spread out over the Mendenhall Center and the practice courts at the Cox Pavilion. Following the clinic, all participants are invited to attend the UNLV Lady Rebels contest against Air Force for free, with the game starting at 4 pm in the Cox Pavilion.
NGWSD is celebrated in all 50 states with community-based events, award ceremonies, and activities honoring the achievements and encouraging participation of girls and women in sports, starting back in 1987. The national-wide celebration is jointly organized by the National Girls and Women in Sport Coalition, and the theme for 2015 is “Game On!”
For more information about the event you can contact Rachel Dunn, Lady Rebel Director of Operations, at 702-895-3041 or by email ([email protected]). Sign-ups for the NGWSD are also available online at UNLVwomensbasketballcamps.com.
