United Way of Southern Nevada Offers Tuition Assistance Preschool Scholarships

to Children in Southern Nevada

The nonprofit offers scholarship assistance year-round

United Way of Southern Nevada offers Tuition Assistance Preschool Scholarships (TAPS) for children 3 to 5 years of age to attend high-quality school readiness preschool programs in Southern Nevada.

United Way is providing affordable co-pays ranging from $17.25 to $57.50 to low income, unemployed and foster families, who do not receive state assistance. Limited scholarships will be provided with a sliding fee for those experiencing the financial hardship of unemployment. Quality programs provide a safe and happy learning environment for the children and increased access to community resources and services to the families.

TAPS was created to help families access affordable, quality early-education programs, a strong factor in a child’s overall academic achievement. According to Longitudinal Studies, individuals are 17 percent more likely to graduate high school, 20 percent less likely to repeat a grade level and 19 percent less likely to be arrested in their lifetime if they have participated in preschool. In addition, early education courses assist with physical, mental and emotional development.

During tough economic times for families in Southern Nevada, United Way makes it possible for all children to have access to early education through TAPS. Without TAPS, the average family would pay approximately $7,200 for one year of preschool, averaging between $400 and $600 per month. With scholarship assistance, the program matches 50 percent of each family’s tuition needs, making monthly payments closer to $200.

Scholarships are valid at any partner United Way Child Development Center. Interested applicants can call (702) 892-2361 for more information on the program, locations and eligibility requirements.
