UNITED WAY OF SOUTHERN NEVADA ENCOURAGES RESIDENTS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF
“EARN IT KEEP IT SAVE IT” FREE TAX PREPARATION THROUGH APRIL 17 DEADLINE

Free tax services available to Southern Nevada residents with household income less than $50,000

United Way of Southern Nevada’s “Earn It Keep It Save It” collaborative continues tax preparation services and encourages individuals to capitalize on the complimentary evaluations through the April 17 deadline.

Patrons whose household income was less than $50,000 in 2011 are eligible to have their tax returns filed at no charge by IRS-certified volunteers. Tax preparers are specially-trained to identify credits available in order to maximize federal refunds, putting money back in the pockets of Southern Nevadans.

Services are available at more than 35 VITA sites across the Las Vegas Valley as a result of an $84,000 IRS grant and matched funding from local partners. VITA site hours of operation vary by location. Qualified individuals are encouraged to make an appointment for their tax evaluation and should be prepared with documents including valid identification, Social Security or Individual Taxpayer Identification number cards (for each person submitted in tax filing), all W-2 and 1099 forms from 2011, daycare payment records and any additional tax documents. Interested taxpayers can find information on United Way’s “Earn It Keep It Save It” free tax services, VITA site locations and hours of operation at www.eksnv.org, 702.892.2300 or dial 2-1-1.

To date, the 2012 “Earn It Keep It Save It” collaborative has helped nearly 3,900 clients claim approximately $6 million in refunds, including almost $3 million in tax credits. In 2011, more than 200 volunteers helped 6,000 families claim nearly $8 million in tax refunds, including more than $3.1 million in federal tax credits.

“Earn It Keep It Save It” provides eligible families and individuals with free, quality tax return preparation and financial education. The project supports United Way’s financial stability Community-based Agenda, helping low-income families become fiscally stable and independent.
