UnCommons to Collect School Supplies for Local Students

Through Communities in Schools’ Annual “Fill the Bus” Drive

UnCommons, Southwest Las Vegas’ new 40-acre modern workplace and stylized mixed-use community at 6880 Helen Toland St., will host a school supply drive in July to help thousands of local students in Southern Nevada as part of Communities in Schools’ 11th annual “Fill the Bus” campaign.

“This is one of the most impactful initiatives throughout the year that helps provide a quality education for disadvantaged youth in our communities,” said Amalie Zinsser, director of community and belonging at UnCommons. “We are proud to support Communities in Schools in their vital campaign to ensure that every student can start the year off with the tools they need to learn.”

Beginning Saturday, July 1 through Wednesday, July 26, UnCommons’ tenants and visitors alike may donate new, unused school supplies in the collection boxes located throughout the campus. Essential school supplies in need include backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, markers and more. On Wednesday, July 27, UnCommons will bring all items collected throughout the month to the official Communities in School drive.

Communities in Schools of Southern Nevada’s mission is to surround students with a community of support, creating an equitable path to education for all students, regardless of race, ZIP code or history of marginalization. By serving more than 70,000 students across 79 schools in Southern Nevada, the organization is helping students stay in school and empowering a new community of changemakers to do good in the world.

Through its annual “Fill the Bus” drive, which started in 2012, Communities in Schools aims to ease the financial burden of buying school supplies for students and their families who are economically disadvantaged and historically marginalized student subgroups. UnCommons invites the entire Las Vegas community to rally together and help make a difference in the lives and education of local students.
