Lucky Winner Hits $2.6 Million Jackpot on
Hot Shot Progressive Video Slot at The Palazzo in Las Vegas

After winning $1,500 on Bally’s Hot Shot Progressive video slot on Friday night, the wins kept on coming and coming for Susan Cupit. On early Sunday morning, the lucky Californian hit a $2.6 million jackpot on the same machine.

Cupit, a 57-year-old homemaker from Palm Desert, Calif., hit the $2,690,428.99 jackpot while playing Bally’s one-cent denomination Hot Shot Progressive video slot at The Palazzo on the Las Vegas Strip at about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 13.

“It made that click sound and stopped on the jackpot. I thought, ‘I must have won something big,’” she said. “I knew it was a progressive but I never looked up. All of a sudden I had 100 people crowding around me saying I’d won $2.6 million.”

She said her husband was relieved they’d be able to live comfortably in retirement. She said that with her massive winnings, they would also do some remodeling on their house and could now fulfill their dream of buying a motorhome and traveling the country after her husband retires.

“We just celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary,” she said. “I’m very happy I could do this for him.”

Cupit and her husband, Mark, are originally from the Seattle area, where they raised their two sons. They used to gamble in Reno but since moving to Palm Desert, they visit Las Vegas every few months and stay at The Palazzo.

On Saturday night, her husband went upstairs at 11 p.m. Cupit decided to keep playing. Shortly after midnight, she put $100 in the same Hot Shot machine that paid her $1,500 on Friday. She said she likes the game because of the wheel and the variety of bonuses. She had been playing for about an hour when she hit the huge jackpot.

“You always say, ‘I’m going to hit the big one, but you never really think it’s going to happen,’” she said. “I’m really taken aback by the amount of people—complete strangers—that are just so happy for me. Truly, I’ve never had more hugs and handshakes and smiles. It’s been just an absolutely wonderful experience.”

Bally’s Hot Shot Progressive is an awe-inspiring double-wheel configuration of the popular brand featured on a 42-inch vertical display sitting atop a 22-inch, high-definition screen. The game features popular play mechanics, touch-activated interaction, progressives, and free games.
