The UNLV men’s basketball program has received signed commitments from local products Mason Abittan and Tyrin Jones to join the Runnin’ Rebels for the 2025-26 season, head coach Kevin Kruger announced Thursday.

Abittan is a 6-foot-6-inch, 185-pound guard from Las Vegas, who attends Coronado High School. He also attended Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas, where he averaged 19.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.2 steals as a sophomore before transferring to Red Rock Academy, which is also in Las Vegas. He is about to begin his senior season at Coronado.

“Mason officially becoming a Runnin’ Rebel is special to us,” Kruger said. “He is a true local Las Vegas product who we have seen grow over the years into a very good player. He can score at all three levels and is an elite competitor. His coaches have helped him develop and we can’t wait for him to get to campus.”

Abittan was one of the top players this past summer on the Puma PRO16 Circuit and was recently selected as a Las Vegas Sun Super Seven selection for the 2024-25 season. He chose UNLV over Colorado State and UNR. He also played on the AAU circuit for Prominent Elite Basketball.

Jones is a 6-foot-9-inch, 190-pound forward who grew up in Las Vegas. He currently attends Layton Christian Academy in Layton, Utah. Ranked as a top-150 prospect by 247 Sports, he chose UNLV over New Mexico, Santa Clara and UC Santa Barbara.

“We are excited for Tyrin to return back home to Las Vegas,” Kruger said. “He brings incredible energy and upside, and has tremendous versatility on both ends of the floor. He can guard multiple positions and score inside and out, which was shown in his success on the adidas summer circuit and with his high school team. His coaches have done a tremendous job of preparing him for his next step and we couldn’t be happier to officially welcome him as a Runnin’ Rebel.”

Jones averaged 6.0 ppg and 3.3 rpg this past summer for Utah Prospects, who won the Adidas 3SSB National Championship.
