Thomas Jr. averaged 13.0 points and 5.5 assists per game last week in victories over Fresno State and Wyoming

 

UNLV’s Dedan Thomas Jr. was named the Mountain West Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Monday.

 

Thomas Jr., who was named the league’s Preseason Freshman of the Year in October, also earned the weekly recognition on Dec. 18.

 

In two victories last week – vs. Fresno State (78-69) on Tuesday and against Wyoming (62-48) on Saturday, Thomas Jr. averaged 13.0 points and 5.5 assists per game while committing an average of just two turnovers per contest. He shot 47% from the field and made all six of his free throws, while also recording an average of two steals per game.

 

Against the Bulldogs, Thomas Jr. scored 12 points with six assists. He was 4 of 9 from the field and made all four of his free throw attempts.

 

Against the Cowboys, he scored a game-high-tying 14 points with five assists and one turnover, while recording a season- and game-high four steals. He was 5 of 10 from the field, including 2 of 4 on 3-pointers. He also collected three rebounds.

 

NEXT FOR THE RUNNIN’ REBELS: UNLV, which has won three straight games, will travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico for a Saturday game against the No. 19/20 Lobos. The 6 p.m. MT/5 p.m. PT game at the Pit will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
