From Balanchine, the ballet master who redefined classical ballet, comes three of his most iconic works: Serenade, Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, and Who Cares? The celebration begins with his first American ballet, Serenade, featuring a timeless score from Tchaikovsky. Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, the tale of Broadway dreams, Russian dancers and the Mob from the Rodgers & Hart comedy On Your Toes, salutes Balanchine’s triumphs on both stage and silver screen. This celebration’s finale will uplift and inspire in an energetic tribute to the bubbly Americana songbook of George Gershwin, in Who Cares?

Some of Las Vegas’ finest entertainers join hearts and voices in Reynolds Hall for one performance only to benefit The Smith Center’s Education and Outreach Programs. God Lives in Glass is a popular musical theatre concert that features a funny, powerful, emotionally uplifting, and original score by Keith Thompson with musical styles ranging from pop to gospel, classical to blues, and reggae to R&B. Inspired by the drawings and stories of children from all over the world in Dr. Robert Landy’s book “God Lives in Glass,” this show is great for the whole family.
Keith Thompson will conduct a live orchestra while Philip Fortenberry’s virtuoso piano stylings take us through a wide variety of musical genres to create a truly remarkable musical experience. Cast members from some of Las Vegas’ best Broadway and production shows will join members of the Las Vegas community to create this superb musical and theatrical concert complete with a special appearance by the kids from Broadway in the Hood and the CLC Celebration Choir.
Dr. Robert Landy’s insightful book that inspired this musical examines the notion of God through the eyes and words of children from all over the world; from many different cultures, races, religions and nationalities. The result is humorous, provocative, and profound.

Music that encapsulates time and place features in this evocative program celebrating Jean Sibelius’s 100th birthday. The Finnish composer’s first symphony illustrates his heartfelt tonal palette allowing the listener to experience the glories of his natural world. Samuel Barber’s violin concerto performed with Alexi Kenney–a young artist of uncommon depth, poise and instinct–conjures echoes of the turbulent 1930s. The world premiere of “Desert Flight,” a sprightly ode to Southern Nevada’s own landscape composed by principal trombonist Nathan Tanouye, launches the celebration.

Elf the Musical is the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discovers his true identity, and helps New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. This modern day Christmas classic is sure to make everyone embrace their inner elf.
Based on the beloved 2003 New Line Cinema hit, Elf features songs by Tony Award-nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by Tony Award-winners Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone).

Las Vegas Philharmonic’s traditional holiday gathering launches the city’s festive season with a family-friendly, fun-filled concert that brings the community together on stage and off. Based on conductor Vincent Falcone’s book, “Frankly, Just Between Us: My Life Conducting Frank Sinatra’s Music,” this event is a must-see for centennial celebration of Frank Sinatra. The brilliant pianist will share often surprising and sometimes amusing stories about his 10 years of travel around the world with Ol’ Blue Eyes. Featuring hundreds of photos and film clips, LaSpina narrates and sings 25 signature Sinatra songs including show-stoppers “Soliloquy” and “Old Man River.”

If music were about pictures, percussionist Poncho Sanchez’s music would best be described as a kaleidoscopic swirl of some of the hottest colors and brightest lights to emerge from either side of the border. At any given show, on any given record, fragments of Latin jazz, swing, bebop, salsa, and other infectious grooves collide and churn in a fiery swirl, with results that are no less than dazzling.
Sanchez’s more than 20-years career has yielded two dozen recordings, a Grammy Award, and several Grammy nominations. The Los Angeles Times said of Sanchez, “As Elvis is to rock and James Brown is to soul, Poncho Sanchez is to salsa.”

Infinitely versatile songstress Kristen Hertzenberg and critically acclaimed pianist Philip Fortenberry return to Cabaret Jazz with an encore performance of their sold-out show from last season, Holidays from the Heart.
For more than five years, Hertzenberg captivated audiences as Christine in Phantom – The Las Vegas Spectacular. She went on to play Dyanne in Million Dollar Quartet on the Las Vegas Strip and established herself as a solo artist, as well. Desert Companion magazine named her Best Torch Singer and other publications have described her voice as “a dynamic instrument,” “lilting and limitless” with “incredible color and depth.”
Fortenberry is an accomplished concert pianist who has performed his sold-out, one-man show, The Man at the Piano, four times at Cabaret Jazz and released nine solo albums. He provided “the hands of Liberace” in HBO Films’ biopic Behind the Candelabra. With more than a dozen Broadway productions and original cast recordings to his credit, he has also performed at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and The White House.
