This American Life host Ira Glass has been working with Monica Bill Barnes & Company to invent a show that combines two art forms that – as Glass puts it – “have no business being together – dance and radio.” One is all words and no visuals. One is all visuals and no words. The result is a funny, lively and very talky evening of dance and stories that brought down the house in its first test run at Carnegie Hall. “What makes it work,” says Glass, “is a shared sensibility. As dancers, Monica and Anna are these amazingly relatable and funny storytellers without words.”

Platinum-selling, 14-year-old vocal sensation Jackie Evancho returns with her third studio album, Awakening, and coinciding international tour. Awakening signals some new directions for Evancho. Cabaret Jazz
Infinitely versatile songstress Kristen Hertzenberg and critically-acclaimed pianist Philip Fortenberry return to Cabaret Jazz with Holidays from the Heart.
For more than six years, Hertzenberg captivated audiences as Christine in Phantom – The Las Vegas Spectacular. She has since established herself in Las Vegas as a solo artist and was recently named Best Torch Singer in Desert Companion magazine. Her voice has been described as “a dynamic instrument,” “lilting and limitless” with “incredible color and depth.”
Fortenberry is an accomplished concert pianist who has performed his sold out one-man show, “The Man at the Piano,” four times at Cabaret Jazz and released nine solo albums. He provided “the hands of Liberace” in HBO Films biopic Behind the Candelabra. With more than a dozen Broadway productions and original cast recordings to his credit, he has also performed at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and The White House.

Cabaret Jazz
Long regarded as one of contemporary jazz’s leading vocalists, Diane Schuur (nicknamed “Deedles”) is as eclectic as she is brilliant. Blind from birth, Schuur is gifted with perfect pitch and initially taught herself the piano by ear.
With a distinguished career that includes two Grammy Awards, Schuur’s music has explored almost every corner of the 20th century musical landscape. Her music collaborations include those with Barry Manilow, B.B. King, Ray Charles and Jose Feliciano, among countless others.
Schuur’s latest recording is I Remember You, an homage to two of her very important mentors, Frank Sinatra and Stan Getz. Expect songs from that release with the backing of her NYC Band: Joel Frahm, saxophones; Ulysses Owens, Jr., drums; Ben Wolfe, bass.

Acclaimed vocalist/pianist/composer Tony DeSare presents Night Life, a postmodern version of the classic, elegant New York night club show of the 1950s brought to life at The Smith Center’s Cabaret Jazz. Tony’s show will explore some of the most hauntingly beautiful and memorable melodies ever written, both old and new, plus a few originals. From Cole Porter and Duke Ellington to Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Willie Nelson, the only requirement is a sophisticated, romantic and swinging melody.

(“We know that Mary used the frankincense and myrrh as a sort of potpourri – they were in a barn after all.”)
Retelling the story of the nativity, as only Sister can, this hilarious holiday production is bound to become a yearly classic. Employing her own scientific tools, assisted by a local choir as well as a gaggle of audience members, Sister creates a living nativity unlike any you’ve ever seen. Re-Animator The Musical tells the bizarre story of Herbert West, a young medical student who has discovered a glowing green serum that can bring the dead back to life…with catastrophic results.
Based on the cult classic H.P. Lovecraft’s Re-Animator, this award-winning horror comedy is helmed by Stuart Gordon (who also directed the film) and features a splash zone for those who enjoy a little splatter! Variety wrote “Not since Little Shop of Horrors has a screamfest tuner so deftly balanced seriousness and camp.”
