The Neon Museum – the Las Vegas non-profit known for illuminating the cultural essence of the city by sharing iconic signage, diverse collections and stories that define its vibrant past, present and future – will host its second annual Write What Happened to You in Vegas, an eight-week memoir writing workshop series led by award-winning author and teaching artist Joylynn M. Ross. Designed for seniors, this hands-on series will guide participants in crafting personal stories and essays inspired by their experiences in Las Vegas.

“The Boneyard, which inspired many of the writers and storytellers, is the home of Las Vegas stories,” said Ross. “For the 2024 workshop participants, it wasn’t where stories were buried—it was where they were unearthed. By the end of the event, the participants, now calling themselves ‘The Neon Writers,’ had formed a family. They’re excited to return for the 2025 workshop, which we’re now referring to as ‘The Neon Writers Family Reunion.'”

Set against the 2.27-acre campus of the Neon Boneyard, participants will draw inspiration from the Museum’s historic collection of iconic Las Vegas signs. The workshop will culminate in a private reading session on April 21, offering attendees a chance to share their work and celebrate the creative journey with others.

Aaron Berger, executive director of The Neon Museum, said, “The Neon Museum’s mission is to engage visitors in the stories that define Las Vegas. Through this workshop, participants will not only be immersed in the history of Las Vegas but also become part of it by sharing their stories. This is the first of many opportunities where we will be able to provide a space for our community to connect through storytelling and creativity, and we look forward to the return of this series and the continued connections it fosters.”

The eight-session workshop will be held over eight weeks, from March 3 to April 21, 2025, concluding with a private reading during the final session. Registration is now open. Tickets are priced at $99, covering all eight sessions, as single-session tickets are not available.

The Neon Museum is open daily and includes an outdoor exhibition space known as the Neon Boneyard that is filled with some of Las Vegas’ most iconic neon signs; the North Gallery, home to the immersive audiovisual experience “Brilliant! Jackpot” which uses technology to re-illuminate more than 40 non- operational signs; the Boulevard Gallery outdoor exhibit and event space; and its visitors’ center inside the former La Concha Motel lobby.
