The UNLV track & field team has taken the trek north for their final meet of the academic year, racing in the NCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field Championships later this week. The Rebels will step onto the track for the women’s 4x100m relay at Hayward Field, the event taking place on Thursday, June 6 at 5:32 p.m. PT.
The Scarlet & Gray earned an invite to the national championships after placing top three in their heat just two weeks ago at the NCAA West Regional, racing a 44.17 time. The Rebels beat out the fourth-place finisher in their heat by .3 seconds, one of the few invited to the big dance this weekend. The team will compete in the second of three heats in the event.
UNLV’s top time this season in the event came from the Arizona Desert Heat Classic back in late-April, the Rebels finishing fourth in the heat on a 44.02 time. The team of Chinyere Okoro, Kennedi Porter, AnnaKay Maitland and Shakeira Bowra combined for the third-fastest time in program history, all four of the members going with the team on the trip to nationals. The team will also take along Jaydea Carter and Sophia Alexander, two other student-athletes on the roster that were part of the Regional squad.
