THE SHADE TREE PARTNERS WITH SOUTHERN NEVADA ORGANIZATIONS AND EVENTS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
The Shade Tree, a 24-hour accessible shelter designed to specifically meet the needs of domestic violence and human trafficking survivors, their children and pets (through a partnership with Noah’s Animal House), is partnering with various local organizations and events to commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), an initiative throughout October to raise awareness and connect advocates working to end violence against women and their children.
“As we observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month this year, we remember the many women and children who experienced events in their lives that give our organization purpose and fuel our commitment to helping our clients get back on their feet,” said Linda Perez, CEO, The Shade Tree. “The last two-plus years have been a true demonstration of the generosity and kindness of our Las Vegas community who supported us, despite having to navigate the uncharted waters of the pandemic. Thanks to our partners, we are continuing to deliver programs and services to those who come to us in their greatest time of need.”
The Shade Tree is partnering with the following Southern Nevada businesses and organizations throughout DVAM, offering a variety of options for supporting the organization:
- The Shade Tree is participating in National Night Out 2022. Led by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Downtown Area Command, the event is from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Western Hotel parking lot located on the corner of Fremont and 9th Streets. Shade Tree advocates will be on hand to answer questions at the organization’s information table. The event is free and open to the public.
- The 2022 Las Vegas Food & Wine Festival has once again chosen The Shade Tree as the benefiting charity and will donate a portion of ticket sale proceeds to the shelter. Happening October 7 and 8 at Tivoli Village (410 S. Rampart Blvd.), guests will enjoy a huge selection of cuisine presented by renowned chefs and sensational spirits. Stop by The Shade Tree booth on Friday and Saturday evenings. The organization will have wine glass charms available for a $10 donation, plus special DVAM merchandise for sale along with tickets available for purchase to The Shade Tree’s Nov. 3 Once Upon a Gala celebration. Tickets for the Las Vegas Food & Wine Festival start at $100 and can be purchased here.
- The Shade Tree will host its annual candlelight vigil on Purple Thursday, Oct. 20. The vigil is an intimate event exclusive to the shelter’s staff and clients during which The Shade Tree family gathers to show solidarity with survivors, acknowledge those who lost their lives, and honor those working tirelessly to stem the tide of interpersonal violence through prevention, education and healing services. The Shade Tree will have candles and t-shirts available for a donation on the organization’s website.
- On Oct. 27, The Shade Tree will participate in the Bolden Area Command 20 Year Anniversary Halloween Festival from 5 to 9 p.m. at 1851 Stella Lake Street. Shade Tree representatives will be there to hand out candy, answer questions and provide information.
- Famous Las Vegas lounge, The Golden Tiki, is offering the “Count Pitaya,” a special drink in honor of DVAM. Priced at $16 ($35 when you purchase the drink in the spooky Tiki Mug), The Golden Tiki will donate the proceeds of each specialty cocktail sold throughout the month of October to The Shade Tree.
- One may also support The Shade Tree by choosing it as the organization of choice on AmazonSmile, a program that donates 0.5 percent of eligible purchases on Amazon. Visit smile.amazon.com and select The Shade Tree.
Immediately following DVAM, The Shade Tree will present the return of its annual fundraiser, Once Upon a Gala, a fairytale-themed event on Thursday, Nov. 3 at Resorts World Las Vegas. Tickets are available for purchase starting at $325 and include delicious bites, libations, entertainment, silent auction and more. For $425 per ticket, guests will receive exclusive access to the pre-event Secret Garden Soirée cocktail reception that includes a special gift.
